The Grill Room & Bar features a rustic, open space with warm, rich colors and tall ceilings. Our “urban steakhouse” also features an easy view of the bustling kitchen and wood-fired grill. With the same comfortable ambiance as its sister restaurants The Corner Room, The Front Room, The Mountain Room, and The Last Run Room, The Grill Room features classic steakhouse entrees and a perfectly paired cocktail & wine list fit to compliment any dish on the menu.
Located in the historic Old Port in Portland, Maine, our famous beef tartare, salads, steaks, and seafood will tantalize your taste-buds. Chef Harding uses local Pineland Farms meats and local produce whenever available.

Great food and service!My family and I booked reservations for dinner, and it did not disappoint!Our waiter walked us through the menu, and service was great throughout our visit!I ordered the 8oz sirloin medium well and a popover. The sirloin was delicious and the popover was light and airy. The blueberry jam really stood out. It was heavenly! The carrots were really good too (everyone at my table enjoyed them).Overall, it was a great experience!

Wow!!! I just have to say that I would not have wanted to spend my birthday anywhere else but here! My wife and I went to the front room and had a great meal and equally good service by Eva and the crew there. Eva took the time to recommend some area attractions and let us know we couldn’t leave without a visit to the grill room and bar . Upon her recommendation we decided to have dinner at the grill room and we couldn’t have been more pleased. Along with seeing Eva again we were so pleased with the service Claire provided us. She was so patient and attentive. I could go on about the service but I need to convey how excellent the food, drinks and atmosphere were. Everything we had was delicious! From the steak to the chicken the shrimp and the manhattans! I could go on and on, my wife and I highly recommend this establishment! The front room and the grill room are a must try when visiting Portland Maine, and if you’re lucky you’ll encounter Eva. We’re looking forward to coming back and adding the corner room to our list!

The best meal we’ve had in Portland so far during our visit! The staff is friendly and attentive, as is the head chef, who you’ll get the pleasure of meeting if you sit at the high top facing the kitchen. The calamari app was delicious and I can’t recommend the salmon entree enough! Portions are generous and the food speaks for itself. Enjoy!

My wife and I sat at the chef counter for our anniversary and had great service. Shawn (our waiter) was fantastic and knowledgeable about recommending wines to us. The staff behind the counter were warm and personable. We had the mussels, ribeye, mushrooms and scallops. All were fantastic. The manager recommended after hours stops upon request. We will absolutely return.

I enjoyed it here a lot for my 24th birthday but they gave us a table that was next to a huge party of 6-8 when we were only 2, and being so close to the kitchen meant we could barely have a conversation.The food was very good and it’s a fantastic place for good, casual food at a quick pace. The open kitchen is lovely and it’s a firey atmosphere.

We went for my bfs birthday and we had the best meal here. The atmosphere is amazing, but the food was incredible. The chef even accommodated to my allergy personally asking specifics. 10/10 will go back.

We are regulars and love the Grill Room. Every time we walk in we’re greeted by the friendly staff. We usually opt for bar seating and everyone behind the bar is so nice! The food is delicious. Everything on the menu (the steak and more) is so well prepared and a real treat. Last night Lexie knew the menu backwards and forwards and made the most delicious martinis. Makenzie and Ryan are also a pleasure behind the bar. We feel so welcome whenever we visit through the food and the service. I definitely recommend this great establishment!

Food was amazing. Service was awesome. Portions were enormous.yes it’s expensive but it’s an experience and worth it. This is a dark environment and I love that about it. Will definitely go back.

Salmon and pork were both outstanding, as was the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer. I order salmon whenever I go out, and this is the best salmon I've had in Portland. The service was excellent, attentive, seemed to be a team effort. The atmosphere is a little noisy, but the excellence of everything else made it totally worthwhile.

Waiter accidentally skipped our table taking orders, which mistakes happen, we didnt mention it but he felt bad and they went above and beyond gave us a complimentary calimari and more, everything eas great highly reccomend the ribeye!

Ours was a perfect seat for our party of 6, right by the window it was excellent.The best seat in the house.I only didn’t give 5 stars all around because of the crazy loud volume in the room, a loud atmosphere that made it uncomfortable for conversation, but it was still very nice early in the evening.

Beautiful ambiance. Excellent customer service although the ribeye steak was a bit overly cooked as it was ordered medium rare. The ribeye was presented well although it was not a good solid traditional ribeye it was more about presentation rather than a delicious piece of steak. The beef tar tartare was delicious. The horseradish mashed potatoes were not our favorite.We would return for cocktails and try different entrees next time.

Let me start with the fact that we were an hour late to our reservation on a Saturday night. Not only did the host graciously provide us with a table, the manager, Johanna, clearly read the reservation notes and brought over a tequila shot for my partner’s 40th birthday celebration on arrival. Claire was our server and she crushed it. Attentive service, excellent recommendations and always with a smile. The food was phenomenal, we had the calamari, steak & cheese salad, the ribeye entree and the sirloin entree. Everything was incredible. We look forward to going back.

First, I would say the name is a bit deceiving calling it a bar and grill, we expected a burger bar and did not expect the prices. Not did a lot of people we saw sit then scoot. The prices are steep but the food and service was amazing. We got drinks and a couple appetizers, bang bang shrimp and calamari. They were amazing and surprisingly huge portions. The bartenders were very knowledgeable on food and drinks. I'd go back here for sure.

We love this place. The wait staff is personable and efficient. The open kitchen is a fun bonus. And, the food has always been delicious. The huge ribeye dinner is my favorite, though enough for 3 meals (prepare for leftovers). I would order the horseradish mashed potatoes for my last meal. And my partner scoffed down his scallops. So happy they reopened after the fire. It's pricy--but as a treat, we think it's always worth it.

My husband and I came in 5 minutes before the kitchen closed so we didn’t any to be a pain and didn’t order food. We had a couple drinks and the staff was awesome. They kept checking on us and didn’t make us feel weird for coming in late. I wanted to eat here for dinner the night before but I couldn’t find it. I’ll be back to try the food. Nice place inside too

My brother and I enjoyed a truly fantastic meal at the Grill Room & Bar last evening. We were lucky enough to be able to sit at the bar overlooking the kitchen, which added to the experience by being able to interact with the Sous Chef and line cooks. Our meal started out with cocktails (an outstanding dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives for me), and then 2 appetizers consisting of grilled scallops for my brother and the wood oven roasted bone marrow with grilled sourdough, oxtail marmalade & pickled shallot salad for me - it was heavenly. Next up came a house-made caesar salad and two more of the same cocktails. For our main dishes, we both selected the house cured duck breast with celery root parsnip puree, local mushrooms, crispy parsnips, and a bordelaise. While everything on the menu made our mouths water, we went with the duck at the recommendation of the Sous Chef and our waiter, Javier. Speaking of Javier, he was absolutely wonderful - he had a great personality (as did our Sous Chef), was attentive, but not intrusive, knowledgable, and made us feel right at home. My brother and I wrapped up the meal with some delicious blood orange sorbet, and called it a night after an amazing two hour experience. The entire staff at The Grill Room & Bar was genuine, warm, and friendly. We'll definitely keep this on our to-go list for future nights when we get to hang out.

Ryan the bartender is awesome. Very knowledgeable of the food menu as well as wine and cocktail from the ones on the menu to ones that are not. Food is good. I go almost once a week to see Ryan whose a good friend of mine.

Run don’t walk!!Our experience here was 11/10! Our server Julio was attentive, kind, and charismatic. Alex put on a show working the kitchen around our view at the Chef’s counter, and everything from the food to the drinks was executed perfectly.We can’t recommend this restaurant enough! It absolutely exceeded every expectation we had and is giving our other Portland favorites a run for their money. We’ll definitely be returning.Thank you!!

An absolutely wonderful dining experience. Competent, friendly staff served us a dinner that started with wood oven roasted mussels and included ala carte salmon, asparagus and beets and ribeye cooked to perfection.(also topped with grilled onions and mushrooms) Each bite was as delicious as the previous. I couldn’t stop thinking about the meal for days.

The food is beyond amazing. I don't think I've ever had a bad item here. Appetizers, salads, steaks, sides - always delicious! I was devastated to find out they had to close due to a fire next door and I cannot wait for them to reopen!

Had a really lovely experience here for my birthday! Our server was sweet and accommodating....the food was so fresh, prepped with love, and came out in a timely way.. we ordered quite a bit off the menu but my favorite part was the steak tartare appetizer. Also got the tomahawk, lots of veggies and aligot potatoes, which were incredible. I'd highly recommend!

Came here for my birthday and honestly this was by far the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food was definitely delicious and the waiting staff was so friendly and polite. If you’re looking for an upscale top of the line place to eat this place is for you. We plan on making this our go to spot.

Officially added to our shortlist of rotating restaurants to hit in Portland.Started with the baked brie and it was to die for. Came with some crostinis and they provided the perfect amount.We had some of the seasonal cocktails like a prosecco and cranberry cocktail. They were delicious and well balanced. Complimented the food very nicely.She had scallops and risotto. The scallops and risotto were cooked to perfection! I had the steak frites that also came cooked to my liking. They were accompanied my a mountain of scrumptious handcut fries.The atmosphere is like a Manhattan steakhouse. We sat in perfect view of the wood fired grill which really added to the experience when the flames would go rising up.Our waitress was attentive and friendly. She got everything right and really made us feel welcome.All in all this place is phenomenal and we will be back.

By far, the best restaurant in the greater Portland Maine area for steak. This restaurant rivals other restaurants that I frequent in Chicago, Dallas, and Omaha.The wait staff is truly exceptional. Very informative, attentive, and excellent attention to detail.Oh, and the French onion soup is amazing!

Perfect dining experience. We sat at the bar that faces into the kitchen and loved it. The food was perfect, the atmosphere was perfect. It is pricey but well worth it for a special occasion. Makes me rethink all the other 5 star reviews I've given.

Wow. Just wow. We were a bit nervous after some of the reviews. However, our expectations were exceeded.Service, Food, and Atmosphere were 10/10! We opted for the Chef Counter and really enjoyed watching them work while we enjoyed cocktails/food. We enjoyed the special of the lamb belly, the wedge salad, and the French onion soup to start. Rounding out our meals with filet and duck. Sharing the spicy broccoli rabe and lobster mashed. Everything was cooked perfectly. If I had the smallest complaint it would be that the duck skin was not crisp at all. And that could just be a personal preference.Our server was fantastic, offering great suggestions and ensured our food was coursed food perfectly.A bit on the pricey side, but worth a visit at least once.

Had the chef’s counter experience and it exceeded our expectations. Staff was amazing and the food was even better. Everything came out promptly and filled us up quickly. Will absolutely come back especially for the bone marrow dish!
