The Grill Room & Bar features a rustic, open space with warm, rich colors and tall ceilings. Our “urban steakhouse” also features an easy view of the bustling kitchen and wood-fired grill. With the same comfortable ambiance as its sister restaurants The Corner Room, The Front Room, The Mountain Room, and The Last Run Room, The Grill Room features classic steakhouse entrees and a perfectly paired cocktail & wine list fit to compliment any dish on the menu.
Located in the historic Old Port in Portland, Maine, our famous beef tartare, salads, steaks, and seafood will tantalize your taste-buds. Chef Harding uses local Pineland Farms meats and local produce whenever available.

We had a great time!! Julio was a wonderful server and the bar tender was phenomenal!! The espresso martini made by “the Irishman” was the best I’ve ever had. Wonderful dinner!

After previously visiting The Grill Room, I went to express my happiness on the occasion and stumbled upon a previous rating on the same day. I’m ashamed of guests that feel the need to not only have such high, and literally inexperienced expectations that they feel the need to tarnish an employee’s and an amazing establishment’s reputation just to feel the need to complain. That night, sitting at the bar, I experienced nothing but professionalism. And further more, bring your readers and stop trying to nickel and dime such a prestigious restaurant.

I don’t write reviews often. But I want to give a shout out to the Rooms — high-quality food; great atmospheres; and attentive, knowledgeable and friendly staffs. That proved true again last week when we visited the Grill Room, sat at the bar, snd welcomed warmly. We couldn’t have asked for more responsive and friendly bartenders and the food (steak tips, other apps, and drinks) were awesome. Couldn’t ask for a better experience. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing experience at The Grill Room & Bar in Portland, Maine. The food was outstanding from start to finish. I ordered the Oysters Rockefeller, Caesar salad, and the special surf & turf, and everything was fantastic and delicious 🥩Our waiter Jaden was awesome as hell, knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly knew what he was doing. The hostess Mia was extremely kind and sweet and made us feel welcome right away.Highly recommend this place if you’re in Portland. I’ll definitely be back 😋

The Grill Room & Bar is one of the best high end restaurants in Portland. They offer a great menu with lots of quality red meat dishes. The mussels and fried shrimp appetizers are packed full of flavor and great to start the night with. The pork chop is amazing and one of the best dishes they serve. Julio is such an amazing waiter and gave us an incredible experience with his humor and great personality (pictured is the photo he took of himself before he took a picture for us). I highly recommend this spot for a small group dinner or for a date night as I’ve done before.

We went to visit Maine from Florida. We found this restaurant on google, read the reviews and we went to try it. The food was amazing, I had the ribeye which it was big enough for two of us. The atmosphere was pleasant

I loved the mussels and the chicken and the duck and the hanger steak and the calamari! The people were wonderful, it was a little loud at the beginning but when they left it was nice and quiet with chatter in the background.

It had a lot of charm. The food was excellent. I really loved the calamari, beets, and a salad (i don't know which one). We had a large party and everything except the entrees were family style, so I got to taste a lot of the menu.

First time here. Went for my girlfriend’s birthday dinner. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very dim and relaxing. The service was top notch. Water constantly topped off, and knew the menu/specials from memory. Had recommendations on sauce/meat combinations. The food was amazing. Everything farm to table and cooked over open fire. You could tell it in the taste and was phenomenal. We started with the white wine mussels and then split the ribeye, duck, horseradish mashed potatoes, beets, and broccolini. It’s definitely pricey, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommend.

We stumbled into this looking for a light dinner. Each couple shared one main entrée which was enough for 2. Fantastic scallops and lobster risotto, roast chicken and beet salad. Good selection of beer and wine by the glass, nice ambience, not too loud.

Fantastic steaks- I’ve had beef around the world and this is one of the best!- sides and starters were equally impressive- and the staff was very pleasant and took the time to chat with us- would highly recommended and would love to return when back in Portland

Perfectly cooked filet mignon, fresh tasting vegetables and great specials. For starter I had the special, scallops in tempura with scallions and other vegetables...I was a surprising combination of flavors that worked! The steak (filet) was ordered black and blue and was perfectly seared and soooo soft and delicious. The asparagus was grilled and seasoned so well, I can't remember having it better. The mash potatoes was good too. It is expensive but worth it.

Always one of our favorites, awesome for locals and locals hosting out-of-state guests. Our bartender Melanie was awesome...very engaging and knowledgeable. Our neighboring bar patrons were great too, easy to make new friends here. Great night celebrating my husband's birthday...you always know what you're getting at the Grill Room....excellence!

Amazing service and food. Our lunch was delicious, we ate like kings. Don’t skip the noshing cheese board or the Caesar salad. Everything was delicious, my daughter said the juicy burger was the best burger she’s ever had, and she’s a connoisseur. Highly recommend for your next lunch!

Our server Julio made our evening so special with his bright sense of humor and great recommendations. The food, wine, and cocktails were spectacular—especially the Key Lime Pie martini for “dessert”! Don’t miss this experience and be sure to ask for Julio!

Colby was so wonderful when we had dinner at The Grill Room!! He was knowledgeable about the specials, the items that were out of stock, the desserts, had a great sense of urgency and was so kind! 10/10 experience and highly recommend you ask for Colby!!

Went here for my boyfriend’s birthday and it was nothing short of amazing. The food was flavorful and cooked to perfection. We had Nessa as our server and she was beyond great. Would definitely come here again when we are in the area!

Great experience one of the best steaks I’ve had in a while. Service was nice and the steak house is dark and a nice atmosphere. Steaks were cooked perfect and the sides were fresh . Would highly recommend.

What an incredible meal and great service. The duck was one of the best entrees I have ever had. Javier was an outstanding server - making recommendations that made each course better than if we had ordered on our own. Bone marrow + lobster is all that!

Anna and Carl the bartenders are awesome!! Very knowledgeable of the food menu as well as wine and cocktail from the ones on the menu to ones that are not. Food is great!. I go almost once a week to see the staff who are all amazing!

Loved it... finally a place that doesn't serve small plates, and I left feeling full and satisfied... Highly recommend are the escargot, bone marrow, ribeye, duck and trout! Also if you can sit and the kitchen bar and chat with the chef's...

One of the best spots in Portland. Haven’t been in 10 years and it was exactly how I remember. Wait staff was tentative, great food. I gambled with a highly rated place (Fore street) the night before and it was horrible. This is the place to be.

What a fantastic evening! Our server Julio (AKA Javier/Dru/MOUTHIE) was amazing. He made excellent drink and food recommendations, was friendly, funny and made the entire experience enjoyable. The food was DELICIOUS, atmosphere was lively. Highly recommend this place!

First timer & they did not disappoint!!! The Chantrelle mushrooms fried in tempura is INSANE. I would eat 10 plates of them, this should be a constant menu item but as an entree!!!! Everything was delicious, we will be back! Great service, the waitress was so sweet. Excellent wine.

Server Claire was awesome. Super personable and great service. Everyone asked how things were and very attentive. Even the chef came and asked how everything was. Great place, everything prepared perfectly and will come back. Highly, highly recommend. Big portions too!

Great food and service!My family and I booked reservations for dinner, and it did not disappoint!Our waiter walked us through the menu, and service was great throughout our visit!I ordered the 8oz sirloin medium well and a popover. The sirloin was delicious and the popover was light and airy. The blueberry jam really stood out. It was heavenly! The carrots were really good too (everyone at my table enjoyed them).Overall, it was a great experience!

Wow!!! I just have to say that I would not have wanted to spend my birthday anywhere else but here! My wife and I went to the front room and had a great meal and equally good service by Eva and the crew there. Eva took the time to recommend some area attractions and let us know we couldn’t leave without a visit to the grill room and bar . Upon her recommendation we decided to have dinner at the grill room and we couldn’t have been more pleased. Along with seeing Eva again we were so pleased with the service Claire provided us. She was so patient and attentive. I could go on about the service but I need to convey how excellent the food, drinks and atmosphere were. Everything we had was delicious! From the steak to the chicken the shrimp and the manhattans! I could go on and on, my wife and I highly recommend this establishment! The front room and the grill room are a must try when visiting Portland Maine, and if you’re lucky you’ll encounter Eva. We’re looking forward to coming back and adding the corner room to our list!

The best meal we’ve had in Portland so far during our visit! The staff is friendly and attentive, as is the head chef, who you’ll get the pleasure of meeting if you sit at the high top facing the kitchen. The calamari app was delicious and I can’t recommend the salmon entree enough! Portions are generous and the food speaks for itself. Enjoy!

My wife and I sat at the chef counter for our anniversary and had great service. Shawn (our waiter) was fantastic and knowledgeable about recommending wines to us. The staff behind the counter were warm and personable. We had the mussels, ribeye, mushrooms and scallops. All were fantastic. The manager recommended after hours stops upon request. We will absolutely return.

I enjoyed it here a lot for my 24th birthday but they gave us a table that was next to a huge party of 6-8 when we were only 2, and being so close to the kitchen meant we could barely have a conversation.The food was very good and it’s a fantastic place for good, casual food at a quick pace. The open kitchen is lovely and it’s a firey atmosphere.

We are regulars and love the Grill Room. Every time we walk in we’re greeted by the friendly staff. We usually opt for bar seating and everyone behind the bar is so nice! The food is delicious. Everything on the menu (the steak and more) is so well prepared and a real treat. Last night Lexie knew the menu backwards and forwards and made the most delicious martinis. Makenzie and Ryan are also a pleasure behind the bar. We feel so welcome whenever we visit through the food and the service. I definitely recommend this great establishment!

Salmon and pork were both outstanding, as was the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer. I order salmon whenever I go out, and this is the best salmon I've had in Portland. The service was excellent, attentive, seemed to be a team effort. The atmosphere is a little noisy, but the excellence of everything else made it totally worthwhile.

Waiter accidentally skipped our table taking orders, which mistakes happen, we didnt mention it but he felt bad and they went above and beyond gave us a complimentary calimari and more, everything eas great highly reccomend the ribeye!
